This module aims to cover the basics of clean room technologies and device fabrication. The specifics of diamond processing will be addressed, with a particular emphasis on cleanroom processes, surface and subsurface modification, and nanopatterning. We will study their application to devices produced in the literature and discuss the limitations of diamond-based processing. 

Practical Sessions:
  • Raman characterisation of carbon materials
  • X-ray diffraction of diamond
  • X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (XPS)
Assessments:
  • 50 %      Examination (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • 25 %      Written report on one of the Practical Sessions
  • 25 %      Oral examination on one of the Practical Sessions
