Negotiation and Influence is designed to provide you with a practical understanding of how to use behavioural science and experimental psychology to influence behaviour. This module is interactive and designed to challenge you with practical problems that will force you to take action to achieve particular goals. The skills you learn can be used in every day interactions but are also useful in business, law, diplomacy, and other situations where strategic decisions can be used to resolve conflict and improve collective outcomes.
What are the professional and communication skills that face academics nowadays? In this module we aim to provide guidance to those intending to pursue an academic career, including discussion of funding, management, and exploitation of research. Weekly sessions will be two hours duration; active participation by students is expected throughout the module. Sessions will be delivered by an experienced Professor of Psychology but also by colleagues specialising in research support (grant writing, impact, commercialisation and media). Therefore while the examples we use will be primarily from Psychology the issues we discuss will be cross-disciplinary.
