Understanding Law in Context (ULIC) is an introductory module that supports all of your legal studies at Warwick Law School. In ULIC you will be introduced to legal theory, to the particular Warwick specialism of Law-in-Context, and to the foundation concepts of the English Legal System. Over two terms, you will engage with critical legal theory and critical race theory among others, you will learn how the courts are structured and why cases are so important in English Law, you will muse over the role of the judges and their questionable impartiality and engage with the art of statutory interpretation. As your understanding of the peculiarities of English law expands, so will your appreciation of its social, political and moral context. Using four case studies, you will learn all you need to theorise, to analyse, and to develop strong, coherent arguments in support of your legal studies over the entire three years of your degree
