Welcome to this interactive module Colloids Science I + II.

The module (blocks 1-5) will run over 11 weeks and is supported every week by a 1 h "what is coming up next?" intro class, a 2 h a week interactive discussion session, an e-book, Forum, and a Wiki (the latter three here on Moodle). Teaching will be synchronous f2f (unless COVID19 guidance and regulations change)The detailed time table can be found below.

In the e-book you will find the core text, extra background  references (blue boxes: NOTE that this is NOT core material), exercises (orange boxes), and short supporting video's as study material for you.

The forum is designed for you to ask questions, and discuss with each other the science you wish to know more about.

The wiki, is a group project where all participants of the module work together to provide the fully, step-by-step worked out answers to the exercises. It is important that all of you contribute to this actively, as doing the exercises is a key part of the learning process. The exercises can be found in the e-book (orange boxes) and will be coded to indicate their level of complexity: * = BASIC, this question is to test your elementary knowledge; ** = INTERMEDIATE, this questions is designed up to a level of adequate understanding of the material (up to a 70% grade), *** = EXPERT, this question is designed to challenge you.

Synchronous Video communication will take place via the Microsoft Teams CH975 page. (also for those following CH415)

CH975 (Colloid Science I and II) will be assessed by open book exam on all 5 blocks (75%).

CH415 (Colloid Science II) will be assessed by open book exam on blocks 3-5 (75%), as Colloid Science I material were covered in CH3F6 (blocks 1 and 2). My strong advice is to also participate in blocks 1-2.

In addition both CH975/CH415 will have a small group presentation (25%). This assessment exercise will be set midway through the module (start of January 2022). The task is to prepare a 15 min mini-lecture on a topic related to colloid science. Your group will "teach" the others.

If you have any questions, or comments please use the Forum here on Moodle to communicate.

I hope you will enjoy the module. Let's make it awesome together!

prof. dr. ir. Stefan Bon
